Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Mu Enzhi et al. (1983). The type section is near Lingxiqiao, north of Shuanghezhen, Changning County in southwest Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (灵溪桥组)


Lithology and Thickness

Lower and Middle parts of the formation, 338 m thick, consist of gray laminated calcareous mudstone. The Upper part, 106 m thick, is composed of dark gray calcareous mudstone intercalated with thin-bedded shelly limestone and limestone lenses.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation is in a continuous sedimentation relation with the underlying Longmaxi Fm

Upper contact

The formation is in a continuous sedimentation relation with the overlying Magongtan Fm

Regional extent

The formation is confined to southwest Sichuan.

Fossils

It yields dominantly brachiopods and trilobites, besides, the graptolite Pristiograptus cf. concinus, Oktavites sp., Rastrites cf. distans can be found at the lowest part.


Age 

According to the graptolite, brachiopod and trilobite assemblages, Rong et al. (1998, in Lin et al., 1998) correlate the fossil assemblages to the Spirograptus minor zone and the Rastrites maximus zone of the Tianba Fm at Chengkou, Chongqing; the age of this formation is assigned to the early Telychian of Llandovery epoch according to his correlation.
